After your 1st visit our vets will often request your pet revisit us for a recheck. At Buchanan’s we often get asked why rechecks are needed. We know how important rechecks can be and after reading this article so will you!
So, why are recheck so important?
- To ensure the original problem is fully resolved
Rechecks are primarily to ensure the original compliant has fully resolved and no longer needs vet intervention. Although your pet may appear 100% better after your first visit (which we hope is true!) the vet may need to use diagnostic tools to confirm this. Common ailments like ear complaints often require examination of the ear canal which can only be performed using a tool called an otoscope. Another common problem are eye conditions which sometimes require the use of a stain to enable complete examination. Often problems can appear resolved but the treatment given is just masking the symptoms. If this is the case once the treatment has wore off the symptoms begin again!
- To take steps to prevent re-occurrence
Rechecks are also important to ensure we are taking steps to prevent a recurrence of the problem, like recommending a specific ear cleaner, shampoo or staying on medication long term.
- Important for long term health of your pet
Making sure the issue is resolved and working towards preventing re-occurrences is why rechecks are so important for the long term health of your pet!
